Movie houses asked to help educate voters

CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu Provincial Board has passed a resolution requesting movie houses and theaters administrators to air the instructional video for voters’ education before and after the showing of movies.

The move is in response to the need to educate the people with the use of automated machines this coming May 10 local and national elections.

Provincial Board member Juan Bolo, who introduced the resolution, got the support of his colleagues, saying that private sectors who are active in making these instructional videos are calling all institutions for support.

Most of these firms, engage in any way relative to public information or entertainment, are asked to help disseminate the information in the voting process and procedures for the 2010 automated elections.

Bolo’s resolution said that these movie houses and theaters could also be a good venue in informing the public on the procedures for voting the upcoming elections.

It further said the movie houses and theaters are among the most common areas where people convene and where these people might still be wanting of the information on the new procedures.

With these, the PB said movie houses and theaters are strongly enjoined on the move to spread the concept of the voting process.

The resolution said movie and theaters would be given a copy of the said instructional DVD which is narrated in Cebuano-Visayan language and other languages.

The Rotary Club of Cebu has been active in disseminating the information and is giving out copies of the instructional videos.

The resolution said that through the movie houses and theaters, all movie goers would be 100 percent assured of the pertinent information as to the new voting process. — Jose P. Sollano/WAB     (FREEMAN NEWS)
