CEBU, Philippines - A 25-year-old high school student was hospitalized after he was shot and punched in the back by unidentified men last Wednesday night in San Nicolas, Cebu City.
Ruel Oliveros, a 2nd year student of Gothong Memorial High School in Barangay Quiot was shot to the back by a man, who he believed was the boyfriend of his classmate, while he was riding a passenger jeepney around 10 p.m.
The victim told police that after attending his night class, he boarded a jeepney bound home and while the vehicle was starting to move, a man standing outside the jeepney suddenly punched him in the back and said, “Kanaog diha! (Get off!)”
The alleged companion of the man then shot Oliveros once prompting him to instruct the driver to drive faster.
When the jeepney reached N. Bacalso Avenue, the victim disembarked and transferred to another jeepney which took him to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment of the gunshot wound he sustained.
Oliveros alleged that he could not think of any reason why should he be attacked prompting him to believe that the boyfriend of his classmate has something to do with the incident.
He said that before riding a jeepney that night, he talked with a female classmate which he believed may have caused her boyfriend to get jealous.
The police said they will conduct a follow-up investigation on the matter to identify the suspects. — Niña G. Sumacot/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
