Davide, Sanchez woo voters in southern Cebu

-

CEBU, Philippines - Former Cebu City councilor and gubernatorial aspirant Hilario Davide III yesterday visited the towns of Badian and Alegria as part of his aim to introduce to himself to the people and let them know that he is seeking the top position in the province this coming May 10 local and national elections.

Davide, accompanied by his runningmate, incumbent Vice Governor Gregorio Sanchez, Jr. visited six barangays in Badian and one in Alegria.

Urban poor leaders from Cebu City, most of them residents of Barangay Luz and those residing in the lots covered by the Provincial Ordinance 93-1, arranged the meeting of Davide and Sanchez in the two towns in southern part of the province. The urban poor leaders said they are convincing their relatives living in the province to support the former city councilor’s gubernatorial bid.

Davide first visited Barangay Matutinao in Badian town where he and his group attended a Holy Mass before they proceeded to neighboring barangays of Malabago, Banhigan, Lambod and Poblacion proper.

The top two candidates of the Liberal Party in the province also visited the island barangay of Marian Saragosa where the famous Badian Resort and Spa is located.

In his speech, Davide informed the people of his interest in the top position of the provincial government.

Sanchez, on the other hand, explained why he broke his ties with Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and decided to join the camp of Davide.

The reelectionist vice governor also discussed the controversies involving the Balili lot deal in Naga City and the Cebu International Convention Center in Mandaue City, which are both believed to be anomalous.

The reelection bid of Sanchez is being challenged by businessman Glenn Anthony Soco, a resident of Mandaue City, who is running in tandem with Garcia. — Jose P. Sollano/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
