LTO after syndicate behind fake licenses
CEBU, Philippines - Transportation officials in Central Visayas are presently conducting an investigation to unmask the syndicate engaged in the issuance of fake drivers’ licenses in Cebu City.
Land Transportation Office-7 assistant regional director Edgar Catarungan is confident that they will succeed because drivers found with licenses are already cooperating with them in the investigation.
“Tingali mga usa ka buwan gikan karon ato nang mabulgar ug mapasakaan og kaso ang mga responsable pagpalusot sa mga fake licenses,” Catarungan said.
At least three fake driver’s licenses have been confiscated by the LTO-7 agents from drivers apprehended for traffic violations.
Catarungan explained that one of these drivers had no proper registration papers for his motorcycle prompting LTO officials to confiscate his driver’s license and impounded his vehicle.
The LTO officials later found out that the motorcycle driver’s license was fake and the latter admitted that he got it from a person who offered to secure his license for him.
For his part, LTO-7 regional director Raul Aguilos advised the public to transact business only with the LTO and not with fixers.
Aguilos issued the statement during the opening of the new and expanded LTO-7 drivers’ licensing center at SM City Cebu.
It is the owner of HLO Drug Testing Center who rented the area from SM City at P250,000 every month and just allowed the LTO-7 licensing center to occupy half of the rented area free of charge.
Joe Mendaros, the proprietor of HLO Drug Testing Center, has assured that the plastic drivers’ license card will be released within a few hours once all the requirements are secured. — Rene U. Borromeo/BRP (FREEMAN NEWS)
