Bystanders maul 2 robbery suspects

CEBU, Philippines - Two suspected robbers have to nurse their wounds inside the detention cell after several bystanders ganged up on them for victimizing a woman along the national highway of Consolacion town last Tuesday night.

Crisanto Cabatingan and Danilo Adrante, both native of Barangay Polpogan, Consolacion sustained injuries in their faces and other parts of their bodies when furious bystanders beat them for robbing Lidia Pizon of her shoulder bag.

Police initial investigation revealed that while the victim was walking along the highway, the suspects suddenly blocked her way. Adrante then poked an 11-inch ice pick at her and demanded for her bag.

Because of fear, Pizon gave up her bag containing P2,000 cash and other important documents.

The suspects then hurriedly left to flee but the victim immediately asked helped from the bystanders and three traffic enforcers who happened to be near where the incident happened.

Traffic enforcers Roderick Laptu-an, Roderick Pedro and Carmella Sevilla together with the bystanders quickly responded and stopped the fleeing robbers by ganging up on the latter. — Antoniette Parce/WAB  (FREEMAN NEWS)
