CEBU, Philippines - Acknowledging the contribution of senior citizens in the development of Bantayan town, Governor Gwendolyn Garcia yesterday launched the “Halad sa Gugma kang Lolo ug Lola” to provide financial assistance and livelihood opportunities to senior citizens in the municipality.
Speaking before more than 5,000 senior citizens, Garcia said it is the aim of her administration to give “special treatment to the people who ‘played a big role and contribution to the development of the province and the country.”
Garcia said the financial assistance of P1,500 will be released through the Provincial Social Welfare Office. She said the office has been tasked to make sure that the needs of senior citizens will be given immediate solution.
Meanwhile, the office of Fourth District Rep. Benhur Salimbangon would reportedly be open to senior citizens who might be needing assistance like admission to a hospital.
Garcia said the program would also be opened in other municipalities. Aside from the program for senior citizens, Garcia also released financial assistance to barangay captains in Bantayan, as well as the P800,000 for the rehabilitation of the municipal building.
