14 hurt in jeepney collision

CEBU, Philippines - Fourteen people landed in the hospital after two passenger jeepneys collided the other night at the corner of P. Lopez and Borromeo streets, Cebu City.

Both jeepneys, one playing the Pardo route (10H) with plate numbers GXC-988 and the other Oprra to Carbon route (15) with plate numbers GVS-200, came from opposite directions.

Alexander Vescara, the driver of the 10H jeepney, and Richard Hiolen, the driver of the other jeepney, were both hurt.

Also injured were their passengers Richard Miolen, 37; Carl Odell, 21; Cristina Rosell, 39; Ligaya Dumpa, 26; Jackilee Rublico, 22; Diana Rose Alvarado, 20; Jana Dizon, 19; April Vergara and Mary An Portillan, both 15, and Taina Rabaya.

Two garbage collectors, Eduardo Langamin, 29, and Judi Bayong, 34, were also injured after one of the jeepneys hit a dumpster by the side of the street after the collision.

Only Rabaya was taken to the South General Hospital while the rest of the injured were taken to the Cebu City Medical Center for treatment of their bruises.

The operator of the 10H route went to the City Traffic division yesterday and claimed that he shouldered the medical expenses for the injured.

Both vehicles incurred an undetermined amount in damages and are now impounded at the City Traffic Office. – Niña G. Sumacot/BRP   (FREEMAN NEWS)
