Cop who fired gun probed without witnesses

CEBU, Philippines - Senior Supt. Jesus Gaquing, director of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, confirmed that though there nary is a witness interested in filing a complaint against a police officer who allegedly fired indiscriminately his gun, still the CPPO is to pursue its investigation.

Gaquing said that a pre-charge investigation will be carried out by the Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Branch for the possible filing of administrative case against PO1 Gilbert Igot should lapses in the latter’s handling of his service firearm would be established.

It was not determined yet where Igot would be reassigned after his release from detention.

As for Senior Supt. Patrocinio Comendador, chief of the Cebu City Police Office, he said that they released Igot from detention since nobody demonstrated any interest to file a case against the policeman.

Last Sunday, Igot allegedly fired his gun indis-criminately while watching the Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto boxing match in barangay Pasil.

Igot was placed under arrest when his .45 caliber pistol went off last Sunday while he was watching the bout. Irked that Cotto lost to Pacquiao, Igot allegedly slammed his .45 pistol on the table. – Gabriel C. Bonjoc/MEEV   (FREEMAN NEWS)
