Borbon inmate does repeat of escape in broad daylight

-

CEBU, Philippines - The inmate who escaped from the Borbon Police Station in May 12, of this year, bolted anew the other day by destroying the lock of his detention cell with the use of a makeshift tool from parts of his folding bed. However, he was intercepted a few hours after onboard a bus bound for Cebu City.

For the second time, 36-year-old Edison Cabahug slipped out of his prison cell unnoticed last Sunday, ironically on broad daylight again. He used to work for a construction firm but was imprisoned for alleged illegal possession of firearms and illegal drugs.

SPO2 Maximo Sanico of the Borbon Police said that a tipster called them up and informed them of the whereabouts of Cabahug. They immediately coordinated with the Carmen Police and the Danao City Police as Cabahug was reported to have taken a ride onboard an autobus.

He was then intercepted in barangay Sabang of Danao City when police officers detailed in an outpost conducted a check on all vehicles passing by the area.

Cabahug was identified through a tattoo on his arm which matched that of the information given by the tipster. He was detained temporarily in Danao but was later turned over back to the Borbon Police Station.

Cabahug is the reason why Senior Insp. Camillo Gonzaga, former Borbon Police chief, was relieved and is still facing an administrative case together with PO1 Bonifacio Gabod, the designated jailer.

“Giligwat man niya ang steel bar gamit ang puthaw sa iyang folding bed mao tong nakaikyas,” PO3 Jose Cejano said.

The first escape, almost six months ago, happened at past 9 a.m. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/MEEV   (FREEMAN NEWS)
