Good vs. Evil Movement to 'raise level of politics'

-

CEBU, Philippines - A movement set to help voters put that demarcation line between the good in conscientious voting as against patronage politics will be launched today.

“We want to raise the level of our politics kay demokrasya man god ta. Sa ato pa og dili maayo ang atong mga leader, kita maoy sad-an kay ang pagpili sa maayong mga leader is our responsibility and choice.

“At least, ang mga botante makahunahuna that they have to take this coming election seriously,” said Francisco “Bimbo” Fernandez on the rationalé of the creation and of today’s launch of the Good vs. Evil Movement.

Fernandez of the Pagtambayayong Foundation, being one of the organizers of the non-partisan movement made up of at least 16 non-government organizations here in Cebu, said that Good vs.

Evil will focus on encouraging the candidates as well as the electorates to bring out the good in them and to shy away from evil – that is vote buying - which he believes is the root cause of corruption in government.

He said that the launching will open with a Holy Mass at 3 p.m. at the Archbishop Palace to be officiated by Rev. Fr. Oscar Camomot. Afterwhich, a signing of pledges of the volunteers on abiding to the prayer of good politics will follow before the activity winds up.

Over 5,000 volunteers are expected to attend the launch, as well as church leaders, the laity, the youth, cause-oriented groups, among many others.

Politicians in Cebu are also encouraged to join the movement so that they may be able to seek what is “good in them and will definitely drive the evil away.”

However, their participation would not assure them of any endorsement from the movement; its nature being non-partisan.

Other activities include voters education and candidates forum. — Elly Bolonos/MEEV   (FREEMAN NEWS)
