Policewoman lauded for fall of Aussie

CEBU, Philippines - The Provincial Board during its regular session yesterday commended a policewoman at the Cebu Provincial Police Office for being instrumental in jailing an Australian national who was alleged of molesting a Filipina last week.

It was PB member Agnes Magpale who filed a motion commending Major Mila Sollano, women’s desk officer of the CPPO, for the arrest of 43-year-old Australian national Andrew Petergy who is now detained at the Bagong Buhay Rehabilitation Center.

Petergy is facing a complaint for acts of lasciviousness after he allegedly molested a woman from barangay Sudlon II, Cebu City while inside an Internet café in a hotel here in the city.

The Internet café where the incident took place is owned by PB member Jose Maria Gastardo, who Magpale said has also helped in fast tracking the arrest of the foreigner.

Magpale said that Sollano “went out of her way to help us,” as it was already beyond 5 p.m. when they were working on the documents needed for the filing of the case.

Further, Magpale said that since the case was perpetuated here in the city, it has been turned over to the International Justice Movement which she claimed she is “working closely with” in many cases in the past.

She said that another lawyer, apart from that of the prosecutor’s office, should also help the victim in her case. — Liv G. Campo and Niña G. Sumacot/MEEV   (FREEMAN NEWS)
