Sea scouts training ongoing

CEBU, Philippines - The Philippine Coastguard Auxiliary here in Cebu will continue to conduct trainings for sea scouts among high school students in order for them to be equipped with skills in rescuing people troubled at sea.

PCGA district commander Norma Porter said that so far they have trained 46 high school students from the town of Bantayan.

Porter said that they plan to hold another training among 60 high school students from the towns of Sta. Fe and Madridejos.

The students will also be trained on how to properly administer cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and carry out search and rescue operations.

As part of the PCGA week-long anniversary which officially culminated yesterday, the “First Inter-Calero Paddle Boat Race” was held in Porter Marina, barangay Calero in Liloan town wherein over a hundred enthusiasts in various categories participated in.

Aside from the said event, Porter said that they have conducted several activities during their anniversary such as planting of mangrove propagules, the cleaning up of selected coastal barangays, dental and medical missions, and feeding programs in cooperation with the town officials.

Porter said that they have also sent out food supplies and other household items for flood victims.

The Philippine Coastguard Auxiliary is the civilian support group of the Philippine Coastguard under the Department of Transportation and Communication.

The PCGA is a non-government organization made up of dedicated and civic spirited volunteers committed to noble cause for the country as it adheres to its military structure and chain of command.
