-

CEBU, Philippines - More gun owners surrender their firearms to authorities as the registration of firearms and renewal licenses will only run until the end of October.

The other day, Toledo City Police Station had turned over 28 assorted firearms to the Cebu Provincial Police Office, which reported that on Wednesday morning, Tabuelan Police Station has recovered one improvised homemade shotgun placed near the police station.

Also on Wednesday morning, two men voluntarily surrendered their firearms to Bantayan police station. Inocencio Seares, of Suba Bantayan surrendered his .45 caliber pistol while River Siete, of Barangay Mohon gave up to government his .45 caliber pistol.

Also on the same day, Danao City Police Station led by Sr. Insp. Ciriaco Larrobis together with some enforcers and barangay tanods conducted a checkpoint in Barangay Poblacion and recovered one .22 magnum revolver, .9mm pistol and three .38 caliber revolvers contained in a bag that was dropped by a passing vehicle.

Danao City police are still conducting a follow up operation to determine who owns the firearms.

CPPO director Jesus Gaquing urges the owners of loose firearms to avail of the amnesty program, which he describes as a “big opportunity,” given by the government. — Gabriel C. Bonjoc/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
