Flyover soon in barangay Mambaling

CEBU, Philippines - The first flyover in the south district of Cebu City will be constructed by the Department of Public Works and Highways along Natalio Bacalso Avenue to ease traffic congestion in barangay Mambaling.

DPWH-7 assistant director Marlina Alviso informed city officials about the project, which is line with the infrastructure program of the department for this year.

Alviso did not give further details of the proposed project, only saying that it will be constructed along Natalio Bacalso Avenue, particularly at the junction of Maria Gochan Street.

In a letter she sent to the City Council, Alviso said the DPWH personnel are still conducting preliminary and detailed engineering activities on the project.

Alviso also did not give the estimated amount of the project but based on similar projects constructed in other areas of the city, a flyover usually costs more than P100 million.

A flyover in Mambaling is expected to minimize traffic congestion in that area, particularly in the portion where vehicles are going to and from the South Road Properties.

The area where the flyover will be constructed is located at the junctions of Natalio Bacalso Avenue and the access road for the SRP.

Traffic congestion usually occurs in this area every morning and afternoon because vehicles coming from the southern towns and nearby barangays would block those vehicles going to SRP from the highway.

Some motorists interviewed by The FREEMAN yesterday afternoon said they were very happy about the project, saying “Kana maoy maayong proyekto, dili sama anang pagtukod og mga skywalk nga gamay ra kaayong mga tawo nga mogamit.”

Once the project is realized, vehicles plying the Natalio Bacalso Avenue will no longer stop upon reaching the junctions of the SRP access road because they will pass through the flyover. Those from the C. Padilla Street will just pass under the flyover. — Rene U. Borromeo/LPM   (FREEMAN NEWS)
