21 villages in 4th district to get electricity

CEBU, Philippines - Twenty one villages scattered in six towns under the fourth district of Cebu will soon have their own electricity after Representative Benhur Salimbangon turned over P5.6 million worth of check to the Cebu Electric Cooperative intended for the electrification project.

Cebeco II General Manager Peter Seneres accepted the check from Salimbangon last Friday at the latter’s residence in Curva, Medellin.

Medellin Mayor Ricardo Ramirez and Daanbantayan Vice-Mayor Maria Luisa Loot witnessed the turnover of the check.

Salimbangon said the amount is part of the P30 million congressional initiative fund of the National Electrification Administration for electrification of the entire fourth district.

Of the P30 million, P20 million is allotted for Cebeco II while P10 million is allocated for the Bantayan Electric Company in Bantayan Island, under which are the towns of Santa Fe, Bantayan and Madridejos.

Salimbangon urged barangay captains in the fourth district to submit approved resolutions to Cebeco and Banelco formally requesting for electrification of un-energized sitios in their barangays. A formal request from the barangay would enable the electric companies to include the request in the program of works.

“Daghan pa gyud tingale sitios ang wala pa lang ma-submit maong ako giawhag ang mga barangay officials nga ipa-submit,” Salimbangon said.

Additional funds will be released by NEA as soon as the sitios concerned will be able to submit their resolutions.

The towns under the fourth district in mainland Cebu include Bogo, Medellin, Daanbantayan, San Remegio, Tabuelan and Tabogon. — Gregg M. Rubio/JMO   FREEMAN NEWS)
