Taxi driver shot dead by motorcycle-riding men

CEBU, Philippines - A 60-year-old taxi diver and masseur was shot dead by motorcycle-riding men while walking along Natalio Bacalso Avenue around 9am yesterday.

Police identified the fatality as Ignacio Rosalita Tabilon, a resident of Lipata, Minglanilla.

Three witnesses told the police they were talking by the roadside at that time when they saw the victim walking along the road. Moments later, two unidentified men on board a Yamaha motorcycle stopped near Tabilon and the man riding pillion disembarked and shot the victim several times, hitting him on the different parts of his body.

When Tabilon slumped to the ground, the triggerman rode back on the motorcycle and the suspects, who reportedly wore helmet the entire time, fled towards Cabreros Street.

Responding personnel from the Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation declared the victim dead.

Police recovered three empty shells of a caliber .45 from the crime scene. Personal grudge is being considered as the motive in the killing.
