Guardo thinks Georgia is strong bet for mayor

-

CEBU, Philippines - Georgia Osmeña, youngest sister of Mayor Tomas Osmeña has not been very noisy about her political plans, but not some people in the opposition.

Businessman Jonathan Guardo said yesterday that Georgia could be a strong candidate for the mayoralty, which she had earlier expressed interest in.

Guardo said that the mayor’s sister is being courted by Kugi Uswag Sugbo (Kusug) to be its standard bearer. She has also been recuited by the ruling Bando Osmeña Pundok Kauswagan (BOPK) to join their group.

Others being considered by the opposition to run for mayor are South District Congressman Antonio Cuenco, former Mayor Alvin Garcia and lawyer Aristotle Batuhan.

Guardo said that Georgia has been laying the groundwork of her political organization.

“Silent water runs (sic) deep and she has asked me to run under her party.  Nobody should underestimate Georgia because aside from her family name, she is an indefatigable campaigner.  BOPK barangay captains who don’t like Mike (Rama) might side with Georgia,” Guardo said.

Mayor Osmeña said he welcomes the development, but said that he has already endorsed Vice Mayor Michael Rama to be his successor.

“It’s a free country, whether its three cornered, four cornered, five cornered, way lami kung way thrilling,” Osmeña said

“There have always been political differences in our family. When Lito Osmeña ran, I was the only Osmeña who campaigned for Lito.  When Serge Osmeña ran naglabad gyud akoa ulo, that’s why I moved out from the house and rented a place in Guadalupe,” Osmeña said.

Georgia, in an earlier interview, said that she is determined to run for mayor, but there hasn’t been much noise about her efforts for such. – Ferliza Contratista/NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
