74 members of SkyCable union vote 'yes to strike'

CEBU, Philippines - Union members of SkyCable in Cebu conducted a strike voting wherein the “Yes to Strike” won.

Rommel Mangubat, press relations officer of the Iwag sa Baruganan sa SkyCable, said that in spite of the result wherein majority of the 79 union members voted yes to strike, they are still open for a negotiation with the management.

Mangubat said that 74 voted for “yes” and none for “no” as three were absent while two ballots were declared spoiled.

The FREEMAN tried to contact the management for comment but nobody was available as of this writing.

The result of the strike voting was submitted to the National Conciliation and Mediation Board.

Mediation is scheduled on September 2 of this year.

Mangubat said that there is now a deadlock with their Collective Bargaining Agreement.

He also said that they have been demanding for more benefits and increase in wages, with the belief that the management can afford as such are “just minimal increases.”

However, Mangubat did not disclose as to what these benefits are and how much are they asking from management. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/MEEV      (FREEMAN NEWS)
