4th "Bike for Peace" held in Compostela
CEBU, Philippines - Determined to continue their goal of spreading peace through cycling, the cycling group Spirit of Paradise held the fourth “Bike for Peace” in Compostela town yesterday with more participants than the previous.
Yesterday’s event was participated by more or less 250 cyclists. The activities started with a Tae Bo session, followed by biking around the municipality and then a short program.
Participating in yesterday’s event were members of Spirit of Paradise, which is composed of personnel of the Central Command; Toledo-Balamban bikers club; Cebu Bikers Club, Cardinal Bikers Club of Cebu City, Trailmaker Bikers Club of Talisay City, and All Terrain Bikers of Guadalupe Club.
Compostela mayor Ritchie Wagas and his elder brother, former Compostela mayor Gilbert Wagas, during the program, expressed thanks to the Central Command for the activity.
Deputy Central Commander Jessie Dellosa, the founder of the activity, said the “Bike for Peace” was hatched with the intention of spreading peace and prosperity throughout the province. He said there can be no development in any area if there is no peace.
Aside from promoting peace, the activity also promotes physical fitness and environmental protection.
The next “Bike for Peace” will be held next month in Cordova.
“Tuloy-tuloy nating gagawin ito until ma-meet nating ang ating objective,” Dellosa said.
The last Bike for Peace was held in June 7 in Balamban and Toledo City and was joined by 221 cyclists, more than twice the number of participants during the second Bike for Peace in Danao City last April 26.
The activity is being supported by Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia and was first launched at the Capitol last March. — Niña G. Sumacot/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
