CEBU, Philippines – Broadcaster Korina Sanchez was in Cebu yesterday as proxy to fiancé Senator Manuel Roxas who was sponsor in a mass wedding in the northern town of San Remegio, about three hours from Cebu City.
“I didn’t know it was very far but it was all worth it,” Sanchez said in an interview following the mass wedding.
Nearly 2,000 townsfolk swarmed the popular broadcaster who served as proxy of Roxas and to cover the mass wedding for her show “Rated K,” which is being aired over ABS-CBN every Sunday.
Sanchez, who is set to wed Roxas late this year, told the newly-wedded couples that marriage is “something that a couple should continually work hard to make it last.”
Yesterday’s mass wedding sealed the fate of 30 couples from four northern towns and was organized by the San Remegio Beach Club.
The mass wedding, in turn, made Sanchez and Roxas “kumare” and “kumpare” of local political leaders like former Bogo Mayor Celestino Martinez, San Remigio Mayor Mariano Martinez, and Department of Tourism Secretary Joseph “Ace” Durano, who was represented yesterday by DOT Undersecretary Phineas Alburo.
Marc Inoc, general manager of San Remigio Beach Club, said the event was aimed to make the resort a wedding destination in Northern Cebu.
From San Remegio, Sanchez traveled back to Cebu City to witness the bid of 7,770 students for a Guinness world record as the largest dance class.
Sanchez disclosed it was her who “pushed the button” for Cebu City Dancesport team leader Edward Hayco to attempt a world record.
“It was just an idea and a year later, heto na, nagkakatotoo na talaga. Who knows if Mar will become President, we will make the Philippines as the dance capital of the world,” Sanchez told the crowd at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Sanchez said she is very glad of Tomas Osmeña’s endorsement on Roxas’ presidential bid. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
