Retired soldier shoots himself dead in Apas

-

CEBU, Philippines - Due to his prostate cancer and arthritis, an 83-year-old retired 2nd Lieutenant of Philippine Army reportedly shot himself dead inside their house in barangay Apas, Cebu City past 4 p.m. the other day.

Bienvenido Tabura Bacus Sr. was reportedly sitting on a chair at the living room with his 16-year-old grandson watching a television show when a gunshot was heard.

According to police investigation, the boy then saw his grandfather, who was only a few meters away from him, lying and bloodied with a gunshot wound to his mouth.

Responding personnel from Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF) pronounced Bacus dead. Crime scene investigators recovered a .357 revolver, three live ammunitions and an empty shell from the scene.

PO2 Dario Manatad said Bacus had long time been complaining of severe pains caused by his arthritis and prostate cancer.

Manatad said they will submit the firearm to Firearms, Explosives, Security Agencies and Guards Supervisory Section (FESAGSS) to verify if it has a license.
