ABC chief prefers Minnie O. in south district

-

CEBU, Philippines - Eugenio “Jingjing” Faelnar, president of the Cebu City Association of Barangay Councils, is inclined to endorse Maria Victora “Minnie” Osmeña, the elder sister of Mayor Tomas Osmeña, to run for a congressional seat in the south district in next year’s election.

Faelnar admitted that he was “bothered by the dawdling and the waiting” for their leader, Mayor Osmeña, to announce his choice for the said position.

In a previous interview, the mayor said that he wants to know who will be the best candidate by first conducting a survey in the south district.

It is a common knowledge that two of the city councilors in the said district are very interested to run for congressman in the 2010 polls.

They are Councilors Gerardo Carillo and Rodrigo Abellanosa who are at times misconstrued by some City Hall observers as rivals.

This oftentimes befalls in almost all of the City Council’s regular sessions when the two councilors are frequently and noticeably arguing during deliberations.

Faelnar wanted the two councilors to remain good friends as they were before and will try to put an end to their estrangement by endorsing someone else.

“Para wala nay langas ba, aron dili na lang sab sila magsige og lalis ug dili magkadisgusto, si Minnie na lang maoy padaganon sa south,” this according to Faelnar.

It was learned that Minnie was here in Cebu the other week and visited the mayor who is still recuperating from his urinary bladder cancer operation.

The ABC president discloses that he will consult the other barangay captains in the south district if they are amenable to his suggestion.

If majority of the barangay officials will agree to his proposal, Faelnar will initiate a signature campaign to formalize their endorsement.

The manifesto will be accorded to Mayor Osmeña and to his sister Minnie as soon as Faelnar gets the majority of the signatures from his colleagues.

“Kapoy na kaayo nga magsige ta og paabot. Na-a man si Minnie. Siya na lang, bahala na si Minnie kung okay siya o dili,” Faelnar added.

Faelnar is also worried with the perceptibility of Jonathan Guardo, the congressional aspirant of the opposition, in the south district.

In an interview over dyHP, Guardo said that he has been preparing for the next year’s reelection bid after bowing to Rep. Antonio Cuenco last election.

Guardo is very confident that he will succeed this time around whoever his opponent will be, especially if the computerization plans push through. — Elly Bolonos of Banat News/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
