Capitol inks deal with DOLE for jobs for displaced workers

CEBU, Philippines - Displaced workers from Cebu Province may heave a sigh a relief after Capitol entered into a Memorandum of Agreement with the Department of Labor and Employment for an emergency employment program for those directly affected by the financial crisis.

The MOA was signed by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia and DOLE Regional Director Elias Cayanong.

Under the agreement, DOLE will implement an emergency employment project for displaced workers with objective of assisting these workers find new ways to earn a living. Capitol, for its part, would provide employment for these workers that DOLE would recommend for hiring.

DOLE would also screen and evaluate project proposals of the province and provide the grant to implement the project. The province, through the Provincial Employment Service Office, would locate job vacancies.

Upon approval of the emergency employment project, 80 percent of the wages and salaries amounting to P450,000 will be released to Capitol. The province will handle 20 percent of the wages and salaries. — Garry B. Lao/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
