PDEA-7 director unscathed by threats

-

CEBU, Philippines – Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-7 director Randy Pedroso does not consider as death threats the information he learned from friends that “some people are warning him against going overboard” in relation to his job.

He said yesterday that he does not even worry a bit.

The matter was raised by PDEA director general Dionisio Santiago who paid a visit here in Cebu yesterday.

Pedroso said that the threats he learned from close friends only show that their duty as anti-illegal drug officers is effective.

“They are threatening us because we are effective sa aming trabaho,” Pedroso said.

These threats, Pedroso clarified, go something like: “Bantay-bantay lang na siya’s iyang trabaho.”

He believes these threats come probably from people who conduct illegal activities. “Sa trabaho namin, marami ang nasasaktan. Hindi na bago ang mga threats na ‘yan,” he added.

The PDEA-7 director, however, said that whether these threats are serious or not, these should not be underestimated; but that these do not stop PDEA personnel in upholding vigilance in their work and in apprehending people involved in the illegal drugs trade.

Santiago revealed the matter during the signing of the memorandum of agreement between RGMA-7’s Pagpakabana, Centennial Force Foundation, Inc.; PhilGuardians Brotherhood, Inc.; PDEA-Bohol Chapter, and the Young Lawyers Association of Cebu for the groups’ campaign against illegal drugs. — Niña G.
