Gwen signs MOAs on jobs, lot donation, and power sharing

-

CEBU, Philippines – Governor Gwendolyn Garcia signed yesterday at the Cebu Provincial Capitol the deed of donation of a portion of a real property, the interruptible load agreement for power sharing, and the memorandum of understanding on uniting government and private sectors in providing employment opportunities.

Garcia entered into the said agreements to address certain conditions, to contribute to environmental sustainability, and to help in the generation of jobs thus sustaining development in the province.

The deed of donation of a portion of a real property was made between Garcia and Jose Manuel Canton, the donor and owner of the land. Canton donated 7,349 square meters of land, a portion of his property located in Mantalongon, Dalaguete town. The donated land will be used to spur further development in the province for the benefit of more Cebuanos.

On another agreement, Garcia and Department of Labor and Employment-7 regional director Elias Cayanong called for government and private sectors to help provide job opportunities for workers who have been displaced by the economic downturn in the business process outsourcing and information technology industries.

Among the parties, the Cebu Educational Development Foundation for Information Technology, Center for Industrial Technology and Enterprise, One Core Business Innovations, and Aegis People Support–Aspire responded to the said call and committed to extend contributions for their “tripartite” partnership with the provincial government, non-government organizations, and the academe.

On the other hand, Dennis Garcia, president of the Visayan Electric Company, Inc. and nine other companies in the province of Cebu considered as “special wholesale power” customers of VECO entered into an Interruptible Load Agreement to answer the expected severe power shortage in Cebu, Negros and Panay this year and in 2010. — Grace C.
