Cop facing grave threats complaint
CEBU, Philippines - A criminal complaint for grave threats was filed against a policeman who allegedly threatened a woman to throw out of the window.
Police Officer 3 Glen Burlas was accused by Maribel Caballero of threatening her and her mother when they reported to the Minglanilla Police Station a physical confrontation that happened between her and a certain Marilyn Avila in the evening of January 29.
Caballero said she sustained injuries during the confrontation, prompting her and her mother to file a complaint at the Minglanilla Police Station since it happened under its area of jurisdiction. It was Burlas who pacified Caballero and Avila.
At the police station, Burlas was allegedly angry at them and uttered threatening words in vernacular. She recalled Burlas having said, “kamo makigkontra mo nako sisiw ra mo. Ayaw mo patuga-tuga.”
Caballero said Burlas again approached them when they returned to the police station on the following day to follow up her complaint against Avila. It was then that Burlas allegedly threatened to throw her out of the window.
Burlas reportedly threw a bottle of mineral water at her which caught the attention of the chief of police. Caballero said Burlas was admonished by Minglanilla police chief Romeo Santander during the incident.
Caballero claimed that the actuation of the police officer had caused great fear and prejudice to her.
“As a consequence I am now inordinately apprehensive after undergoing such harrowing ordeal,” she said in her affidavit.
On top of the criminal complaint she filed before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office, Caballero also filed an administrative complaint against Burlas before the Internal Affairs Service. — Fred P. Languido/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
