Man charged for trying to kill father

CEBU, Philippines - A man has been charged with attempted parricide before the Regional Trial Court for trying to kill his 69-year-old father last March 17.

Reynaldo Lariosa was arrested by the police and was charged with attempted parricide after he allegedly tried to kill his father with a pickax.

Vivencio Lariosa, in his affidavit, said that while he was sitting outside of his house last March 17, his son Reynaldo came with a pickax and attacked him for no apparent reason.

Vivencio said that his son hit the door first and then attacked him after. He was hit on the head and left forearm.

He said that though blood was, at that time, oozing profusely from the wounds he had sustained, he managed to get hold of the pickax from Reynaldo and pushed his son to the floor.

When the suspect heard of footsteps from somebody who might had been alerted by the commotion, he hurriedly left the area with the weapon.

Vivencio, who was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center, sought the assistance of the police that led to the arrest of his son.

Since Reynaldo failed to submit his counter-affidavit, the charges have been elevated to the RTC. — Jasmin R. Uy/MEEV   (THE FREEMAN)
