1 killed, another hurt in shooting

-

CEBU, Philippines – Despite the call to observe a solemn Holy Week, two shooting incidents occurred early this week here in the city.

At past 10 p.m. the other day, a man was declared dead on arrival at the Cebu City Medical Center after he was shot in barangay Alaska-Mambaling.

Based on the initial investigation conducted by SPO3 Rey Cuyos, the victim identified as Leonardo Amora Galido alias “Amay”, 23 years old, a resident of sitio Puntod in the said barangay, was sitting on the roadside in the area with a companion when the gunman approached him.

The gunman fired at Amay but he was reportedly able to run. Again, the assailant fired at him, hitting him in the back, right chest, and left arm.

Witnesses described the gunman to be around 30 years old, medium-built, was wearing a white shirt and a pair of maong pants, and sporting on a white bull cap.

The assailant then reportedly fled on foot together with an unidentified companion towards barangay Duljo-Fatima.

An informant alleged that the victim, at times, served as a drug courier in the area.

The other shooting incident happened at around 3 a.m. yesterday also in barangay Duljo-Fatima.

The victim, John Joseph Crismal, 18 years old but still on his second year in high school, and a resident of the said place, alleged that he was about to go home after having a chat with his girlfriend, Jee-ann Gonzaga, and their friends at the roadside of B. Aranas Extension when a group of youngsters appeared and suddenly fired at him with a handgun for unknown reason.

He sustained a gunshot wound to the stomach. He was rushed to the CCMC.

Two of the suspects were known only as “Bobby Buro” and a certain “Otik.”

The perpetrators together with their other unidentified companions are still at large. — Johanna T. Natavio/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
