4 hurt after tricycle, patrol car collide

CEBU, Philippines - A patrol car of the Daanbantayan police collided with a tricycle yesterday around 10:45 a.m. at the corner of Almirante and F. Fernan streets, barangay Poblacion, Bogo City. The driver of the tricycle with plate no. GZ-1071, Arcelipo Lipon, a resident of barangay Gairan, Bogo City, sustained wounds to the head while three of his eight passengers were also injured.

They were identified as Felisa Andrino, 68, who suffered a leg fracture; her four-year-old granddaughter Cayla, who sustained injuries to different parts of her body; and Aillen Mefante, 18. All are residents of barangay Sudlon of the said place.

The Nissan Terrano patrol car of the Daanbantayan police with plate no. SJC-640 was driven by PO3 Mamerto Gastador who was with fellow policemen and Ulysses Rodriguez, a detainee facing a charge for illegal possession of firearms.

Those injured were rushed to Severo Verallo District Hospital and are now out of danger said PO3 George Ocena, traffic investigator of the Bogo police.

Cebu Provincial Police Office director Sr. Supt. Carmelo Valmoria has ordered an investigation into the incident. He said the policemen just came from the sala of Judge Apolinario Buaya in Bogo City to file a case against Rodriguez, allegedly wanted in Ormoc City for a murder case. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc and Guam Logroño/BRP   (THE FREEMAN)
