CEBU, Philippines - A man was arrested for illegal possession of firearm during a raid by the National Bureau of Investigation in barangay Lamacan, Argao early morning yesterday.
Gualberto Egos, an alleged toughie in their neighborhood, was caught in possession of an improvised shot gun with magazine and five live ammunitions by elements of the NBI led by Special Investigator Arnel Pura.
The NBI agents swooped on Egos’ house to serve a search warrant issued by Regional Trial Court Executive Judge Meinrado Paredes.
The operation stemmed from the complaints of Egos’ neighbors that he indiscriminately fired his gun, which created chaos and fear in the neighborhood.
Based on the complaints, Egos indiscriminately fired his firearm last March 3 and 5. A series of surveillance operations which started last March 10 were conducted against Egos.
Pura said they were told that Egos has a .357 revolver, caliber .45 pistol and a shot gun. The search, however, yielded only a shot gun and five live ammunitions.
Egos is currently detained at the NBI headquarters while a complaint for violation of the Republic Act 8294, otherwise known as illegal possession of firearms, will be filed against him on Monday. — Fred P. Languido/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
