One Visayas features cuisine, Waray films
CEBU, Philippines - Aside from exhibits and cultural performances representing Regions 6, 7 and 8, the sixth day of the “One Visayas” event at the Cebu International Convention Center yesterday showcased culinary demonstrations on how to prepare Cebu’s “humba,” bake Argao “torta,” as well as “chicken binakol” of Capiz.
Day 6 opened with a lecture on independent filmmaking, followed by a lecture on the indigenous and colonial architecture of Cebu by Arch. Melva Rodriguez-Java.
“Sukaran”, a local architecture design lecture and book launch by Mr. Marianito Luspo from Bohol was not able to present yesterday; as well as the culinary demos by Negros Occidental, Southern Leyte and Iloilo.
But the said activities were replaced by the screening of short indie films from Samar – Krus, Salug, and Biringan.
This was followed by Babaylan, Pagbalik, and Confessional in Sinugbuano. Confessional won grand prizes in the CineMalaya and Cinema One digital films competitions.
Recently, it reaped the “Best Foreign Language Film” plum in India, this was learned from Babaylan director Publio Briones III.
An art buyers’ night was also held with a cocktail.
Outdoor cultural performances featured PanagSogod Festival of Sogod, Kinsan Festival of Aloguinsan, Tubod Festival of Tuburan, Halad Festival of Talisay City, Sugat-Kabanhawan Festival of Minglanilla, and Rosquillos Festival of Liloan.
The Sogod Performing Arts and the Cebu Pop Music Festival winners entertained the crowd last night, before live band performances rocked CICC at 9 p.m. — Johanna Natavio/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
