Family driver stabs midwife to death
CEBU, Philippines – Due to alleged jealousy, a midwife was stabbed dead by their family driver who also happened to be her live-in partner at past 4 p.m. last Sunday inside the victim’s residence on Holy Family Road, Nivel Hills, barangay Lahug, Cebu City.
Dee Ann Alcala, 33, a licensed midwife and sales manager of a dental medical product, was killed on the spot after she was stabbed several times by the suspect, Onisimo Taningco, Jr.
The victim, who is divorced from her husband with whom she has two children, has allegedly introduced Taningco as their “new family driver and family friend.”
The victim’s sister, Diane Angela, told police that on the day of the incident, Dee Ann and Taningco were supposed to go out to relax.
In fact, Diane Angela added that before Sunday, the suspect had sent a text message to her sister, which he mistakably sent to her (Diane Angela) saying, “Kita lang ta Sunday. Love you.”
But Diane Angela said she replied to Taningco telling him that he sent his message to the wrong recipient. She added that she even teased Taningco about his text message when they met and informed her sister about it.
On the day Dee Ann was killed, the suspect allegedly went to her house drunk looking for her.
The victim, who was then preparing her two children for a shopping with their father, told Taningco that she can’t go out with him because she needs to accompany her children.
However, Taningco allegedly insisted that he go with them that resulted in a heated altercation that eventually led to the throwing of bottles by the victim to the suspect.
Minutes later, one of Dee Ann’s children allegedly saw her mother in the kitchen being choked by the suspect and then stabbed twice on the chest.
When the girl tried to rescue her mother, the suspect allegedly hurled the knife at her but she was able to evade.
The victim then tried to escape but was again stabbed several times by the suspect in the body and back that resulted to her instantaneous death.
Taningco immediately returned to his residence, which is located nearby. He was about to escape when he was arrested by the responding policemen. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
