Liloan to have program for disabled persons

-

CEBU, Philippines - Liloan Mayor Vincent Franco “Duke” Frasco is set to sign a memorandum of agreement with the Katipunan ng Maykapansanan sa Pilipinas, Inc. (KAMPI) for the implementation of Breaking Barriers for Children project.

A committee report, which approved the agreement, submitted by Councilor Lucelito Pilapil said there is significant number of disabled persons in Liloan.

The program, aimed at helping children with disability, is parallel with the municipality’s efforts to help persons with disabilities by giving discounts in transport fares and medicine.

According to Pilapil, the program is envisioned to focus on health services for the sector, aside from giving them training, education and employment.

The council also wants to have an awareness program for the public.

The KAMPI, Liloan’s partner for the new program for children, is a non-profit organization and a designated rehabilitation and therapy institution licensed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development.

Under the proposed partnership, KAMPI will provide a facility which will be handed over to the local government unit after 18 months.

KAMPI will provide manpower and technical assistance needed for the operation and will conduct training for barangay health workers.

The municipality, for its part, will release a counterpart of P237,000 for basic equipment and maintenance. — Garry B. Lao/LPM   (THE FREEMAN)
