Dads to commend Cerge Remonde
CEBU – The Cebu City Council is set to commend newly installed Press Secretary Cerge Remonde during its regular session on Wednesday because of his achievements that have given pride to Cebu.
City councilor Edgardo Labella admired Remonde for his “outstanding track record” as a broadcaster, print journalist and for being among the original Cabinet members of President Gloria Arroyo since 2001.
Remonde’s stint as director general of the Presidential Management Staff ended yesterday and the native of Argao town, Cebu, formally took over as the new Press Secretary.
After he obtained a Bachelors of Arts degree and graduated cum laude from the University of the Visayas, Remonde started his media career as a radio reporter and slowly rose from the ranks to become radio station manager and also a newspaper editor.
Before he joined government service, Remonde served as anchorman of the highly-rated dyLA Interaction, a primetime news and commentary program that set the benchmark for public affairs programming.
He holds the distinction of being the first ever to rise from the ranks of provincial reporters to become the national chairman of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas and the first KBP chairman to be elected to a sixth term.
Three days after Arroyo assumed the presidency in January 2001 he was appointed Press Undersecretary in charge of broadcast.
Then he was named head of the Government Mass Media Group whose task is to oversee various government-owned media entities.
His leadership in radio, television and print has earned him many awards and distinctions, among them as the Most Outstanding Visayanian in the field of Mass Media in 1998 and the most outstanding Cebuano in 1999, together with former chief justice Hilario Davide Jr.
