Borbon to hold Silmugi festival again today

CEBU - A total of six contingents will participate in today’s relaunching of the Silmugi Festival to coincide with the town fiesta of Borbon in honor of its patron saint, San Sebastian the Martyr.

Participating contingents are comprised of students from public elementary and high schools in Borbon, including a private high school in barangay Sagay —the Don Emilio Osmeña Memorial High School.

Two years after the Silmugi Festival was initiated by the Department of Education, Borbon Mayor Bernard “Butch” Sepulveda said that they have accepted the challenge posed by Governor Gwendolyn Garcia to launch again the festival named after the Silmugi River.

The move is also in preparation for their participation in the “Pasigarbo sa Sugbu” this year, a grand festival of all festivals in the province of Cebu, spearheaded by the provincial government.

Balikbayans, who were part of those who attended the “Balik Borbon” last Saturday, are expected to witness the street dance.

A nature and family park at the vicinity of the Silmugi River is now a priority program  of the municipality this year, this was further learned. — Jose P. Sollano/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
