Boy, 17, found dead in Pardo
CEBU - A 17-year-old boy was found dead with a gunshot wound in his head outside a house at the back of the Pardo Elementary School yesterday.
The victim, identified as Socrates “Lucky” Cañete, was found lying on a wooden bed with a piece of cloth, which he might have used for sleeping.
Miko Seguerra, a third year criminology student, found the bloodied Cañete while the former was on his way to school about 9am yesterday.
PO3 Fredilson Codilla said Cañete was shot on his right temple with the bullet exiting his left nape. An empty shell of a .9mm pistol was found at the crime scene.
Police also recovered a bunch of keys, a gold earring and a coin purse, which contained a brass pendant of religious emblem from the victim.
A resident in the area, Juvilyn Sabellano, told the police she heard a gunshot about 3:45am and saw a man in a black jacket fleeing the crime scene on board a red motorcycle.
Sabellano said she wanted to call out to Lucky but her friends reportedly told her not to disturb the boy’s sleep.
William Tajanlangit, chairman of barangay Pardo’s peace and order council, said Cañete was reportedly accused of stealing years ago.
Cañete’s elder sister, Joanne, later said her brother had been away from home for three days already and reportedly went roaming around with his friends.
Cañete’s remains are at the Saint Francis Funeral Parlor. — Bentley Naire Luyong, CIT MassCom Intern and Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/JMO (THE FREEMAN)
