PB member's nephew dies in mine accident

CEBU - A nephew of Provincial Board member Wilfredo Caminero was killed after he had fallen off a steep portion of a mine site reportedly owned by Caminero in barangay of Balaa, Argao at around 2 p.m. last Tuesday.

The victim, identified as Alex Llorando, reportedly fell off a portion of the mine site estimated to be around 25 feet deep. Llorando served as general foreman of the mining firm

Caminero said that according to the other workers who were around during the incident, Llorando’s head was severely wounded after it hit a hard object believed to be made of steel.

Caminero was at the Cebu International Convention Center for the ceremonial turning on of Christmas lights when a staff called him up and informed him of the accident.

“I had the shock of my life,” he said, adding that he still has a hard time accepting the tragedy as his nephew, who used to live in his house, has been managing his mining firm for 30 years now.

The burial took place yesterday. — Christopher Gabriel Bonjoc/MEEV   (THE FREEMAN)
