Acting mayor suspends construction of hotel

Cebu City Acting Mayor Michael Rama has suspended the construction of the building of a hotel along Juana Osmeña Extension and ordered the developer to fix the damage of the road before Misa de Gallo.

In his first press conference held at the office of Cebu City mayor-on-leave Tomas Osmeña, Rama said the cease and desist order was already served and was received by Alexander Tanchan of the Philmacro Development Corporation.

“I expected the completion of things will be done before the Misa de Gallo so that people passing Juana Osmeña will feel safe, they will shoulder all the repairs and expenses on the road,” Rama said.

According to the cease and desist order, all construction works for the building are suspended. It instructed the developer of the building to focus on the restoration works of the affected portion of the road.

Rama also instructed the Cebu City Engineering Office to make an inspection daily on the progress of the repair works.

Last Sunday, a retaining wall of the construction collapsed following a downpour and damaged the two roads.

Rama said he has yet to receive a detailed report on the incident. – Ferliza C. Contratista/LPM (THE FREEMAN)
