Janitor faces charges for burglary

CEBU - The National Bureau of Investigation has filed a criminal complaint for qualified theft before the Mandaue City Prosecutor’s Office against a janitor who owned up to last month’s burglary of a company that manufactures construction materials.

The complaint was filed against Dindo Elim, 23, of barangay Jagobiao, Mandaue City based on his affidavit admitting to the burglary of the office of the president of Joyland Industries Corporation on November 29.

Elim, in his affidavit, said that he was subpoenaed by the NBI for questioning after his employer James Yu requested for an investigation.

While waiting for the polygraph examiner, Elim decided to cooperate and told investigators that he was one of those responsible in the breaking into of Yu’s office.

Elim then accompanied the NBI operatives to recover part of the more than P400,000 they allegedly took from Joyland Industries. NBI operatives recovered P159,000 from Elim’s house in Jagobiao.

According to him, he shared part of the loot with his companion whom he refused to name.

Elim admitted that they entered the Joyland Industries where he worked as janitor by scaling the perimeter fence before going in through the duct of an aircon. 

   Elim and his still unidentified companion tried to mislead the investigators by writing on the floor using a green ink that the culprits are from Bohol.

Although they were caught in the security camera, investigators at first found it hard to recognize the suspect because he was wearing a mask.

Elim also wore gloves and socks so that no prints will be lifted by crime scene operatives. — Fred P. Languido/LPM   (THE FREEMAN)
