A Transformed PNP, 'Pwede pala!'

-

For some reasons, many people have already lost their trust in government authorities that includes the Philippine National Police.

But for the Dilaab movement, the creation of God-centered, family-based and service-oriented police is still very much possible. “Pwede Pala!” it said.

Amid the reign of evil forces such as corruption, various forms of crimes and cheating, among others, Dilaab told the public that there is still hope for the nation and there is still hope for a changed PNP, even if it is considered by many people as one of the government’s most corrupt agencies.

The good news was revealed during the recent launching of the “Pwede Pala Pinoy,” a story telling festival attended by hundreds of students and teachers from different universities, officials and personnel of the PNP and individuals who believe that it is not yet late for a transformed Philippines.

Police officials who have brought Christ in the lives of their fellow policemen inspired their audience with their testimonies that touched many hearts and opened many eyes to the then discreet, yet, really wonderful works God has been doing in the PNP.

The first story was about a colonel who was still a young captain when he started a movement and worked closely with a woman barangay captain who was in her late 60s. Despite the age gap, their collaboration has resulted into a community that has united for one common cause that is to share the love of Christ for the common good.

The story was told by Col. Cesar Binag himself and retired Gen. Samson Tucay who were among the four founders of Core Movement Foundation of PNP, which envisions transformed lives in the PNP with members living a God-centered, family-based, and service oriented life.

The movement is now present in every PNP unit especially the PNP Integrated Transformation Program of 2005, which is aiming to create a brand of police that gives effective, credible and Godly police service.

Tucay said that when they started the movement, they first targeted those police who have gone “astray” or those who lost their belief in God. These were former drug users, corrupt and policemen who turned criminals.

However, he said the movement provided them with the love the same with what God has been giving to his children.

“I still have faith in the PNP no matter what people say against us. I believe that PNP plays a very important role in providing protection and stability in the country that’s why we continue to seek for change which we know we can only get when we have Christ in our hearts,” Binag said.

He acknowledged they can change themselves only through the power of God.

“We encourage the public that instead of criticizing us like what I always experience, just pray for us. Bless your police officers and have faith that God can change them into a better person to serve you better,” Binag added.

CMF is now targeting new police graduates by mentoring them at the early stage of their police service.

Binag said they believe they could be catalysts for change in the community not because of their own strength but in their faith.

Because of the success of their movement, the group is also planning to conduct Purpose Driven Life seminars to all the members of the PNP.

At present, there are 60,000 policemen members of the CMF and they are hoping that in the near future, they could subject to spiritual transformation all 125,000 members of the police force nationwide.

“We may not see the fruit now, but in the eyes of Christ I believe we will see a transformed Philippine National Police and a transformed Philippines,” Binag said. —Jessica Ann R. Pareja/WAB
