Mambaling kid 47th to die of dengue

CEBU - A three-year-old child from barangay Mambaling is the latest dengue casualty for this year, bringing the number of deaths to 47 for the entire Cebu City.

According to the progress report furnished by City Disaster and Coordinating Council head, Councilor Gerardo Carillo, two cases of dengue with one death were reported from November 1 to 8.

Last year, covering the same period, Carillo said there were 294 cases reported.

Since January 1 to November 8, the CCDCC recorded 1,035 cases with 47 deaths, which Carillo said, is 35.31 percent lower than last year’s figure.

In 2007, 33 dengue deaths were recorded out of the 1,600 cases.

Most of those affected by the illness are males.

Guadalupe still leads the barangays with most number of dengue cases -73 cases and six deaths; followed by Labangon with 49 cases and three deaths; Mabolo with 45 cases and one casualty; Basak-San Nicolas which shares figures with Mabolo, and Inayawan with 44 cases and three deaths.

On the other hand, city barangays with no dengue cases since January of this year include Agsungot, Babag I, Buot Taup, Malubog, Pamutan, Pit-os, Sudlon I, Sudlon II, Tabunan, Tagba-o, and Taptap. – Ferliza C. Contratista/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
