City Hall gives patrol cars, truck to 4 brgys
CEBU - Four more Cebu City barangays yesterday received patrol vehicles and a mini-cargo truck from the City Hall.
The officials of barangays Carreta, Mabolo, Mabini and Taptap were so very happy when they received the vehicles.
Barangay Mabini received a mini cargo truck while the three other barangays were given patrol vehicles to be used by their tanods in patrolling in their respective areas.
The other day, acting city Mayor Michael Rama also turned over three vehicles to barangays Busay, Pulangbato and Pahina Central as the city’s aid to the barangays.
A few days from now, more barangays will also receive vehicles in response to their requests to the City Hall because they do not have budgets for these projects.
During the City Council’s session yesterday, Councilor Augustus Pe Jr., chairman of the committee on public safety, security and order, proposed a resolution to appropriate funds for the purchase of patrol vehicles for barangay Inayawan and dump truck for barangay Cogon Ramos.
The barangay officials were instructed to use the vehicles in conducting roving patrols in their territorial jurisdiction to promote peace and order, particularly against the gang and fraternity.
Meanwhile, Alpha Khapa Rho (Ahkro) chairman Richard Buscayno yesterday appeared before the City Council during the public hearing on the proposed ordinance that regulates the membership of minors into fraternity groups.
Buscayno said he is not against to the proposed ordinance that is sponsored by Councilor Sylvan “Jack” Jakosalem because it is not actually banning the membership but only regulating it.
Under the proposed ordinance, it would be illegal for any officials of fraternity organizations to accept members who are below 18 years old, unless if they could present authorization from their parents and verification.
Buscayno asked the barangay officials to accredit their chapters in their barangays if they want their group recognized. — Rene U. Borromeo/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
