Napocor eyes SRP for new office

CEBU - The National Power Corporation is asking Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña and Cebu Investment Promotions Center managing director Joel Mari Yu to provide them with the details of lots available at the South Road Properties.

In his letter dated October 9, 2008, Edmundo A. Veloso, Jr., manager of Napocor-Small Power Utilities Group-Visayas Operations Department, thanked Osmeña and Yu for their support and assistance in their request to purchase a parcel of lot at the SRP.

The city will provide Napocor a parcel of lot at the SRP with an area of 3,000 square meters which will house Napocor’s future regional office in the Visayas.

City administrator Francisco Fernandez said that he will refer this matter to the City Legal Office to verify if bidding is still needed if a government entity will sell government property to another government entity.

Osmeña is currently in the United States for the treatment of the cancerous mass that was found in his urinary bladder.

According to Fernandez, lots at the SRP are valued at P8,000, P11,000, and P15,000 per square meters depending on their location.

If Napocor will buy a parcel of lot at P8,000 per square meter, Fernandez said the P3,000 square meter lot that Napocor wants to purchase would cost around P24 million. — Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon/WAB (THE FREEMAN)
