CEBU – A mine worker was shot dead by a co-worker around 4 p.m. yesterday in the mountain barangay of Balaas, about 25 kilometers away from Poblacion, Argao town.
Danilito Amatong, 31, was killed on the spot after being shot by Gregorio Amancio, a resident of barangay Manlapay, Dalaguete town.
The victim was a hoisting operator while the alleged assailant was a utility worker of the said mine.
Investigation by PO1 Rodrigo Teo of the Argao Police station revealed that prior to the incident, the alleged assailant had a heated argument with another co-worker but later walked away.
Later the alleged assailant returned and approached the victim who was talking with co-worker Cresencio Sumbilon and asked him: “Unsa man, paliton nimo?” then suddenly pulled out a gun and shot the victim once.
The victim was hit in the left temple with the bullet exiting from the other side of his head. The alleged assailant fled to barangay Papan and was believed to have gone to his residence at Dalaguete before disappearing.
PO1 Teo further said Amancio is on parole but he is not sure what he was convicted of.
“Dunay background ‘ning suspek nga maldituhon g’yud. Parolado na gani ‘to siya,” Teo said.
Teo further said that they immediately called the police assigned at the mountain barangays of Dalaguete when Amancio was nowhere to be found.
