Man slain in Carcar identified; American dead in Danao City

CEBU - The unidentified man who was shot in Carcar City earlier this week was finally identified by his brother yesterday.

Heracleo Aldaba identified the corpse as that of his brother Liderato, 31, a resident of barangay Guadalupe.

Heracleo told the police it has been a week that Liderato did not go home. His brother reportedly had mental disorder and had been going around asking for money in the streets.

Heracleo said because Liderato appeared “normal,” he may have been mistaken as a “tong collector,” which may have angered some people. He said they could not think of any enemy his brother might have made.

Last Sunday evening, residents of barangay Valencia in Carcar City heard gunshots and later saw Liderato’s lifeless body sprawled in the street.

Aldaba suffered two gunshot wounds in his left shoulder and left leg.

Meanwhile, an American was found dead at the rest room in his residence in Danao City last Wednesday morning.

PO1 Nelson Pantoja of the Danao City police said the victim was identified as Jerry Lewis Turner, 69, who was married to a certain Marissa Manulat.

It was reportedly Marissa who reported the incident to the police when she saw her husband already sprawled in the rest room, seeming unconscious.

The police then went to the residence and brought with them City Health Officer Eric Echavez, who confirmed the American was already dead.

The real cause of death was not confirmed yesterday but Echavez said Turner might have suffered a heart attack. An autopsy is yet to be conducted on the body.
