Cop who pointed gun at boy restricted to camp

-

CEBU - The policeman assigned to the Special Reaction Unit of the Cebu Provincial Police Office who allegedly pointed a gun at a boy while he was drunk in barangay Ermita is now on camp restriction at CPPO headquarters.

CPPO director Sr. Supt. Carmelo Valmoria said PO1 Samuel Alvares is temporarily relieved from his duties as member of the SRU.

Alvares has been detailed as a police escort of Cebu Provincial Capitol Consultant on Security and brother of Governor Gwendolyn Garcia, Byron Garcia, for almost two years now.

“The SRU is the most disciplined and most trained unit of CPPO, this is actually the first time something like this was reported about him,” Valmoria said.

He said the Cebu City Police Office will file the criminal charges against Alvares while the Provincial Investigation Bureau will take care of the administrative investigation.

Alvares was disarmed and arrested by the Special Weapons and Tactics Team of the CCPO past 6 a.m. Sunday after he pointed his .45 cal. pistol at 17-year-old boy. He was then brought to the Cebu City Medical Center where he was confirmed to be intoxicated.

A charge for grave threats was filed against him yesterday. — Ferliza C. Contratista/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
