Man slain, pal hurt in shooting

CEBU – A man was killed while another is in a critical condition after they were shot by three assailants during a benefit dance in barangay Maslog, Danao City, early morning yesterday.

Exequel Quiros, 21, was killed after being hit in the left shoulder and his liver while his companion, 17-year-old Georgeson Sagaysay, is now fighting for his life in one of the hospitals in Cebu City after being shot in the head.

Both are residents of barangay Magay, Compostela town, and were celebrating the fiesta in barangay Maslog when the incident happened.

PO1 Nelson Pantuja of Danao Police Station said that Quiros and Sagaysay just came out from the benefit dance past 2 a.m. yesterday.

Witnesses said Sagaysay went ahead of Quiros and suddenly they were met by the three assailants. Two of the assailants were armed with guns but only one of them fired at Quiros first, then Sagaysay.

At that sounds of gunfire, people attending the benefit dance ran for their lives. When things settled, people saw the two sprawled on the ground.

Quiros was declared dead upon arrival at the Danao City District Hospital while Sagaysay was later transferred to Cebu City.

Pantuja said some witnesses identified the assailants but the police are withholding their names pending further investigation. – Ferliza C. Contratista/BRP (THE FREEMAN)
