Dutch shot by father-in-law

CEBU – A Dutch citizen is now in critical condition after he was shot and stabbed by his Filipino father-in-law in their house in barangay Sumaguan, Argao town, last Sunday around 7 p.m.

Thirty-eight-year old Dennis Van Westerop is now fighting for his life after sustaining gunshot wounds to his back, right shoulder, right arm and right upper leg.

Westerop also sustained serious stab wounds on his right shoulder and right side of the body.

He was rushed to Isidro Kintanar Memorial Hospital but was later transferred to the South General Hospital wherein he was placed at the Intensive Care Unit for further medical attention.

The alleged assailant, Victoriano Gomez Jr. alias “Junior Gomez”, the father-in-law of the victim, is now being pursued by the police after fleeing from the incident allegedly still holding the gun he used to shoot the victim.

According to the Argao police station, the victim’s wife, Gladys Gomez Westerop alleged that the incident happened three hours after she arrived home from Cebu City together with the victim and their three-year-old son around 4 p.m. last Sunday.

Upon their arrival, the alleged assailant told his grandson to come to him and bless his hand, but the child ignored him.

The alleged assailant allegedly called again for his grandson and was heeded this time, but as soon as the child approached him, he slapped the child thrice and he cried out loud.

The victim who was then at the second floor of the house heard his son’s wailing and immediately went down and punched the alleged assailant’s face and knocking him to the ground.

The victim immediately went outside while the alleged assailant took a bolo from the kitchen and looked for the victim.

Gladys allegedly heard three gunshots from outside the house. Minutes later, somebody called the attention of her mother, Clara Gomez, that the victim was shot by her husband.
