Salimbangon distributes coupons to GMA scholars

CEBU – Over a hundred of scholars of Rep. Benhur Salimbangon of the 4th District of Cebu Province are already assured of paid tuition fee before the semester ends on October in the “ladderized” programs that they are enrolled in.

Salimbangon has already distributed the Technical Education Skills Development Authority (TESDA) coupons of varied amounts to 154 scholars under the Training for Work Scholarship Program of President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. These scholars are enrolled in different training institutions in the fourth district and in Metro Cebu accredited by TESDA.

Just recently, 26 scholars had received their coupon worth P5,000 each for Bookkeeping (National Competency) 3, which is embedded as qualification for Bachelor of Science in Business Administration at Madridejos Community College in Bantayan Island.

There are also 30 grantees of coupons worth P3,500 each for those taking Food and Beverage Services – NC2, an embedded course for BS in Hospitality Management at St. Louise de Marillac in Bogo City.

There are five awardees of P3,500 each coupon for taking Commercial Cooking –NC 2, an embedded course of BS in Hotel and Restaurant Management at the University of Cebu Lapu-Lapu and Mandaue.

There are 64 coupons at P10,000 each for scholars taking Shielded Metal Art Welding (SMAW) – NC2 at the TESDA training centers in Daanbantayan, Medellin and Tabuelan.

There are 18 recipients of P5,000 each coupon for those taking Household Service Worker –NC2 at the Cebu Roosevelt Memorial Colleges in Bogo City.

Under the “ladderized” program of TESDA, courses are embedded to a bachelor course and the student could already have certificate for applying job after two years in school and it is up to them if they wish to complete the degree.

Salimbangon said that the coupon for short-term programs cover the whole tuition fee of the course while coupon for “ladderized” program only covers the specific course and not the other academic subject that has to be shouldered by the student.

Scholars under the “ladderized” program would exit at the end of the semester while those enrolled in the short-term program have to complete the number of hours. — Gregg M. Rubio/NLQ (THE FREEMAN)
