2 hurt in separate shooting incidents

-

CEBU – Two persons were injured in separate shooting incidents yesterday and last Saturday.

The first incident involving a minor took place at around 1 a.m. yesterday at a gasoline station along Mango Avenue.

According to the investigation, the victim was drinking with his friends in the said place when suddenly five young men approached them and, without any provocation, one of them shot the victim in the back.

The suspects were reportedly seen heading towards Fuente Osmeña. Despite the fact that the crime scene is only a stone’s throw from the Fuente Police Station, responding policemen failed to arrest the group of youngsters.

The victim is now recuperating at a hospital.

Meanwhile, extreme jealousy over a woman allegedly triggered a man to shoot his rival but accidentally shot and injured the cousin of the latter instead in barangay Tupas, Ronda town, last Saturday at 8:40 p.m.

Glenn Gelasque, of legal age, and resident of sitio Ilithon, barangay Magtubo is now detained after caught by police yesterday around 6 a.m.

He will be charged today for shooting Daniel Landiza, cousin of his supposed victim, Alejandro Tijas alias “Itok”.

Investigation revealed that the suspect was allegedly jealous at Tijas for marrying the woman the suspect loved.

With the so-called failure to win the love of a certain “Maribeth”, the suspect decided to get even by shooting Tijas but accidentally hit Landiza in the process.

Tijas and Landiza were reportedly on their way home when they heard a gunshot. Not minding the sound, they continued to walk, but again they heard three consecutive shots. It was then Tijas realized that Landiza had been shot in the back.

Ronda police arrested the suspect after a hot pursuit operation. — Niña Chrismae G. Sumacot/MEEV (THE FREEMAN)
